Student Visa (F-1)

1. Basic Conditions for an F1 Visa

– The F1 visa is issued for students who wish to study in the U.S. in academic programs such as undergraduate, master’s, Ph.D., or certified English language courses.
– The institution must be accredited by the U.S. Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP).
– The course must have more than 18 hours of instruction per week.
– Vocational training programs are not covered (require an M1 visa instead).

2. Steps to Apply for an F1 Visa

1. Obtain an I-20 from a SEVP-accredited institution.
2. Complete the DS-160 form online and print the confirmation page.
3. Pay the visa application fee: $185 (updated) and the SEVIS fee: $350 (updated).
4. Schedule an interview at the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok or the U.S. Consulate General in Chiang Mai.
5. Attend the interview and wait for the result.

– Financial documents: Bank statements (6 months), proof of solvency or scholarship letters
– Proof of accommodation & health insurance
– Recent 2×2 inch photos

4. Processing Time

Usually 2–3 months, depending on embassy workload.
